excursie 18 september naar experimentadesign amsterdam (?)

For the first time in history the earth’s population is more urban than rural. This means that for most people on this planet, the city has become their natural habitat. When in this context we speak of growth and blossom, terrain and flow, or use other natural metaphors, we speak in fact of engineering, architecture and design. We talk about the city as a landscape, that we have created ourselves and continue to shape.

Shaping a place is as much about imagining it as it is about building. Look at a child playing and you can recognize an arch-instinct shared by all living beings. Stepping over an imaginary line, and closing a virtual door behind him, the child says: now I’m in my home. If he has only sticks and stones to play with, he will use these to demarcate the difference between inside and outside, between a place and its surrounding space.

In design for the urban landscape, such symbolism meets the existential needs of the city’s inhabitants, who use it to define their habitat as a place to be. ExperimentaDesign Amsterdam 2008 focuses on the new urgency with which we consider urban public space. We highlight the latest strategies for enhancing public places as theater of public conviviality. From informal – and sometimes illegal – interventions which reclaim the street as the meeting place for independent citizens, to proposals by architects and designers to develop the city’s public space as a playground for social interaction. Plus reflections on how to transform a neutral space into an individual place by an international range of cutting-edge designers.

ExperimentaDesign Amsterdam 2008 invites designers, architects and other creatives from all over the world to meet their audiences in one of the finest urban playgrounds of all: the city of Amsterdam.

de blog is met het einde van het schooljaar inzicht enigszins in het slob geraakt. Nu augustus 2008 en de start van het nieuwe schooljaar een goed moment de draad op te pakken. Ik ben in principe elke donderdag op de aki. 's morgens voor de 4e jaars. 's middags voor 2e en 3e jaars (2 wekelijks zie akinet). Hoop jullie donderdag aanstaande (28ste) weer te zien...

Space Time Play: Gaming in urban space

het NAI organiseert 2 en 3 mei twee avonden over gaming en de stad. mogelijk interessant voor de hardcore student die vorig semester de colleges rond het boekje 'Mediapolis, Populaire cultuur en de stad' hebben gevolgd. zie voor info agenda archined.nl of calender van dysturb.net

tentoonstelling public space NAI

De tentoonstelling My Public Space is gebaseerd op de aanname dat de beleving en het gebruik van publieke ruimte onder politieke en economische druk aan verandering onderhevig zijn. ZUS doet in samenwerking met acht correspondenten onderzoek naar stedelijke ontwikkelingen in Europa (Dublin, Kopenhagen, Napels, Barcelona, Rotterdam, Tirana, Brussel en Berlijn) om uit te vinden of en hoe deze transformatie zich openbaart. De resultaten van het onderzoek zijn vanaf juni te vinden op de website www.mypublicspace.eu, in een publicatie én in acht reizende kiosken die in de buitenruimte in Rotterdam en op het terrein van het NAi komen te staan. Ze zijn nog op zoek naar foto's van de verschillende plaatsen.

semester 4. OPGAVE 4: ALS HUIZEN KONDEN SPREKEN...

de stad wordt enerzijds gevormd door de mensen die er wonen. anderzijds ook door de stenen waaruit het gemaakt is. deze opgave is bedoeld om na te gaan hoe deze 'stenen' communiceren. De wijk Roombeek wordt landelijk gezien als proeftuin van 'particulier opdrachtgeverschap'. De particuliere opdrachtgever mocht zelf bepalen hoe zijn huis er uit ziet. Het resultaat is een 'bonbondoosje' met allemaal verschillende smaken. de vraag aan jullie; kijk eens naar deze wijk en schrijf een korte kritiek op een of meerdere huizen. Een enkele foto kan e.e.a. verduidelijken.

semester 4. OPGAVE 3: HET HEK IS VAN DE DAM

in vervolg op het thema 'angsten' nu een misschien iets basalere opgave. 'ontwerp een hek'. denk goed na over hoe je je idee communiceerd. de presentatievorm is vrij. Hoe ziet jouw hek eruit? (vorm, materiaal, detaillering) Maar zeker ook, wat de is functie van jou hek? ...
